Meet Your Doula

What is a Doula?

An end-of-life doula is a trained, non-medical professional who provides holistic support to individuals and their loved ones during the final phase of life. This role focuses on emotional comfort, companionship, and helping clients articulate their wishes, values, and priorities. Their goal is to offer guidance, reassurance, and meaningful companionship throughout the transition.

End-of-life doulas also support family members and caregivers by providing information, encouragement, resources, and referrals to professionals when needed. They help ease the emotional load, practical or logistical, and uphold the client’s values and choices at every step.

While doulas play an essential supportive role, their services do not replace medical, clinical, or legal care. Instead, they work alongside healthcare teams and professionals to ensure continual care and dignity throughout the process.

A close-up photographic realism image of a simple, handmade comfort basket designed for the final days, placed on a linen-covered chair. The basket contains a neatly folded, plush grey blanket, a small bottle of lavender essential oil, a satin sleep mask, a deck of inspiration cards tied with twine, and a smooth wooden hand rest. Soft indirect daylight from a nearby window creates a gentle, diffuse illumination, revealing the textures of fabric and wicker while casting minimal shadows. Captured at a slight diagonal from above with a shallow depth of field, the basket is in sharp focus against a softly blurred, neutral background, conveying warmth, thoughtful preparation, and nonmedical, compassionate support.

About Sarah

As an end-of-life doula in Boise, I blend professional training with deep spiritual presence, guiding individuals and families through active dying with clear communication, gentle ritual, practical support, and unwavering respect for each person’s beliefs.

My path into end-of-life support began when my grandmother had cancer and I received my Certified Nursing Assistant training to help care for her as a teen. Over the next three decades, I have had the honor of supporting individuals and families as they navigate the emotional, spiritual, and practical aspects of this stage of life. I wholeheartedly believe that every person deserves comfort, dignity, and connection during this final chapter. I have completed End-of-Life Doula Training through the International End-of-Life Doula Association and the Peaceful Presence Project. I worked as a hospice volunteer coordinator for five years and have served as a vigil volunteer for more than ten.

I created Sacred Vigil End-Of-Life Doula Services to formalize my efforts to help my neighbors who need support—especially caregivers, who have often cared for someone with a serious illness for a long time. People who are dying have an incredible gift to give to us who love and care for them. I recognize I have skill for illuminating that gift and holding space for the person who is dying and their loved ones to plan for a happy, peaceful death.

Lately, as a public health leader and PhD student, I work to create stronger, healthier communities. I study how everyday people can help their neighbors who are at end-of-life and those who love and care for them. Sacred Vigil puts my research into practice. Personally, I can’t separate my faith from this work, so I serve in the name of Christ, who is Love and Mercy Itself.
